BRS attacks Revanth Reddy over Karnataka water project

BRS leader Harish Rao on Thursday slammed Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for not raising objections to Karnataka's water project on the Tungabhadra river. Rao alleged that the Congress government in Telangana remained silent for a year despite Karnataka constructing three barrages illegally.

According to Rao, Karnataka is building the Kurudi Barrage (2 TMC), Chikkalparvi Bridge-cum-Barrage (2.5 TMC), and Chukkalamachi Bridge-cum-Barrage (5 TMC) without requisite approvals, totaling 9.5 TMC of water storage. He claimed this would deprive Telangana of its rightful share.

Details of the alleged illegal barrages

Rao stated that the three barrages on the Tungabhadra river are being constructed without clearance from the Krishna River Management Board or the central government. He questioned why the Telangana government had not filed any objections in the past year.

"The Reddy government has raised no objections in one year. Karnataka is stealing Telangana's water, and the CM is watching silently," Rao said at a press conference in Hyderabad. He demanded immediate intervention from the central government and legal action against Karnataka.

Political implications for Telangana

The BRS leader warned that the inaction could lead to a severe water crisis in Telangana, especially in the drought-prone regions of the state. He accused Revanth Reddy of prioritizing political gains over the interests of farmers.

Rao also called for a united front from all political parties in Telangana to protect the state's water rights. "This is not a party issue but a matter of survival for millions of people," he added.
