DMK Ministers Conduct Traditional Ritual for Upcoming State Conference in Trichy
In a significant prelude to the upcoming assembly elections, senior DMK ministers K N Nehru and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi performed the Panthakkal Naduthal, a traditional ritual, on Sunday in Trichy. This ceremony was conducted to ensure the success of the party's state conference, titled 'Stalin Thodarattum, Tamil Nadu Vellattum' (Let Stalin Continue, Let Tamil Nadu Win), scheduled for March 8.
Massive Preparations Underway for Conference
The ministers revealed that approximately 500 acres of land has been identified at Siruganur, located along the Trichy-Chennai National Highway on the outskirts of the city. This expansive site is being prepared to host an estimated 10 lakh cadres and party functionaries during the conference, which is seen as a crucial event in the run-up to the assembly election.
K N Nehru, speaking at Siruganur, outlined the detailed arrangements for the conference. He stated, "The conference will witness participation of the maximum number of cadres, with an objective to ensuring a second term for our Chief Minister in office. Around 200 acres will be reserved for cadres and the meeting venue alone. Another 300 acres will be for parking vehicles and addressing other needs."
Political Significance and Strategic Moves
The conference is strategically designed to mobilize party workers and galvanize support ahead of the assembly polls. DMK MLAs and district secretaries who participated in the ritual were assigned specific tasks to commence work for the meeting, highlighting the party's organized approach to the event.
In addition to the conference preparations, Nehru addressed questions regarding recent political developments. When asked about DMK MP Kanimozhi's meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, Nehru downplayed the significance, remarking, "A leader meeting another is a common thing. We did not cover our faces with handkerchiefs while meeting another party leader." This comment subtly referenced past controversies while emphasizing normalcy in political interactions.
Local Demands and Future Prospects
During the event, a notable demand was submitted to the party's manifesto drafting committee. The ministers revealed that a proposal to declare Trichy as the second capital of Tamil Nadu was presented during the committee's recent visit. This move underscores the party's focus on regional development and could play a key role in its election strategy.
The Panthakkal Naduthal ritual, deeply rooted in Tamil tradition, symbolizes the party's commitment to cultural values as it gears up for a high-stakes political battle. With the conference set to be one of the largest in the party's history, the DMK aims to showcase its strength and unity, setting the stage for a competitive election season.
