DMK Government Rescues Nearly 2,400 Tamils from Global Trouble Spots

Chief Minister M K Stalin made a significant announcement on Monday. He revealed that the DMK government has successfully rescued close to 2,400 Tamils facing difficulties in various countries and states. Stalin shared this information during the Non-resident Tamils Welfare Day function held in Chennai.

Proactive Protection for Non-Resident Tamils

Stalin emphasized the proactive stance of his government in safeguarding non-resident Tamils. He stated that over the last three years, the state government rescued 2,398 individuals from challenging situations. These rescues occurred in countries like Ukraine, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Israel. The government also assisted Tamils in other Indian states.

The chief minister highlighted additional support measures. In cases where members of the non-resident Tamils welfare board pass away, the state government provides monthly financial assistance to their families. This initiative aims to offer stability during difficult times.

Stalin Calls for Unity Through Tamil Identity

During his speech, Stalin urged non-resident Tamils to remember their roots and identity. He stressed that Tamil language and culture serve as unifying factors. "Tamil is the only factor to unite us despite differences in castes and religion," Stalin said. "Though we are separated by countries, we are united by Tamil."

Stalin's message focused on cultural cohesion. He believes shared heritage can bridge geographical distances and social divisions.

Awards and Recognition for Outstanding NRTs

The event featured several recognition ceremonies. Stalin listened to the aspirations of five non-resident Tamils under the newly launched 'Ungal Kanavai Sollungal' scheme. This program allows NRTs to share their goals and dreams with the government.

Stalin also presented awards to NRTs who excelled in various fields. The Tamil Mamani award went to Annamalai, President of Periyar Ambedkar Thoughts Circle - Australia. He received this honor for his dedicated service to Tamils living in Australia.

Several individuals received the Kaniyan Poonkundran award for their contributions to education and other fields. Recipients included:

  • Mohamed Haniffa Abdullah, Founder of MAHSA University in Malaysia
  • Saravanan Padmanabhan from Singapore
  • Other notable figures from Japan, Australia, UAE, Germany, and the USA

These awards recognize the global impact of Tamil diaspora members. They highlight achievements across diverse sectors and regions.

The Chennai event showcased the DMK government's commitment to Tamil welfare worldwide. It combined rescue operations, financial support, cultural advocacy, and public recognition. Stalin's leadership continues to focus on connecting with Tamils both within India and abroad.
