Kanpur District Magistrate Issues Strict Orders on Stray Dog Control
Kanpur District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh took decisive action on Friday. He instructed officials to achieve complete control over stray dogs across all public and sensitive locations. This directive specifically targets schools, hospitals, sports complexes, bus stations, and railway stations.
Immediate Measures and Nodal Officer Appointments
During a crucial meeting addressing the stray dog menace, the DM outlined concrete steps. He mandated that every relevant institution must appoint a nodal officer. This officer will bear direct responsibility for conducting regular monitoring. Their primary duty involves ensuring stray dogs do not enter the premises.
The DM emphasized immediate resolution of any arising problems. Officials must coordinate swiftly with the municipal corporation to address issues. He stressed this matter extends beyond mere cleanliness or convenience. It directly impacts the safety of residents and children throughout the city.
Current Sterilization Statistics and Ongoing Efforts
The chief veterinary officer provided critical data during the meeting. He reported approximately 1.36 lakh street dogs currently registered within municipal corporation limits. Out of this total, authorities have successfully sterilized more than 84,000 stray dogs so far.
The officer confirmed the sterilization process continues in a phased manner for remaining dogs. District Magistrate Singh further directed the inclusion of animal lovers in the campaign. He urged officials to motivate these individuals to participate actively.
Priority List and Call for Coordinated Action
Singh instructed officials to prepare a priority list of sensitive locations. These areas will require special monitoring efforts. He underscored the necessity for mutual coordination between multiple entities.
"A permanent solution to this problem is possible only through mutual coordination between the administration, the municipal corporation, and institutions," the DM stated clearly. This collaborative approach aims to ensure sustained and effective action against the stray dog population, aligning with the intentions of the apex court.
