Kolkata: Ballygunge MLA Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay on Friday challenged a Calcutta High Court single bench’s decision that refused to grant an interim stay on the Speaker’s move to appoint Ritabrata Banerjee as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP).

Division Bench Hearing Scheduled

The matter will be heard by a division bench comprising Justice Shampa Sarkar and Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.

Single Bench Observations

Earlier, the single bench of Justice Krishna Rao observed in its order that 58 TMC MLAs held the majority strength and that Ritabrata’s expulsion, which is under challenge before a civil court, had been stayed until June 30.
