Lucknow is currently enjoying a welcome break from the intense winter chill. This sunny relief will continue for a few more days, according to weather officials. However, residents should prepare for a change. Fog and cold day conditions are likely to make a comeback starting this Friday.
Current Weather Snapshot
The city recorded its temperatures on Monday. The maximum temperature reached 21.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature dropped to 6.6 degrees Celsius. This period of relative warmth is providing a temporary respite.
Forecast for the Coming Days
The local weather office has issued a detailed forecast. A fresh western disturbance is active over Afghanistan. This system is influencing the weather pattern across the region.
Senior scientist Mohammad Danish from the Met office explained the situation. He stated that temperatures will begin to rise from Tuesday. This warming trend is a direct result of the western disturbance. However, the scientist warned that temperatures will start to drop again from Friday.
The forecast for Lucknow includes shallow fog in the morning hours. This should be followed by a clear day. Mist is expected to form during the night. The maximum and minimum temperatures are predicted to hover around 22 and 7 degrees Celsius respectively in the coming days.
Statewide Weather Conditions
The broader weather picture for Uttar Pradesh remains largely dry. However, fog and cold waves are significant concerns in specific areas.
- Dense to very dense fog may occur at isolated places over western Uttar Pradesh.
- Dense fog is also possible at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh.
- Cold wave conditions may prevail in some parts of West UP.
Impact of the Western Disturbance
Mohammad Danish provided further insight into the recent temperature shifts. The western disturbance caused the wind direction to shift back to north-westerly. This shift resulted in a noticeable temperature drop across most parts of the state over the last 24 hours.
Day and night temperatures fell by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius in most regions. Some parts of Purvanchal were exceptions to this cooling trend. This drop led to cold wave conditions in several areas of western UP. In these areas, minimum temperatures even fell below 4 degrees Celsius.
Outlook for Western Uttar Pradesh
Weather officials do not expect any significant change in conditions for the next 48 hours. As a result, cold wave conditions and frost are likely in several districts.
These conditions are anticipated in districts within these divisions:
- Agra
- Aligarh
- Meerut
- Saharanpur
- Moradabad
- Rohilkhand
There is some good news on the horizon. Temperatures are expected to gradually rise after this period. This warming should bring an end to the severe cold wave and frost conditions.
Fog and Sunshine Pattern
In the northern terai region, dense fog is expected during the early morning hours. The fog is not expected to last all day. It should dissipate quickly as the day progresses. This will allow sunshine to break through, providing some daytime warmth despite the chilly starts.
