Union Minister Demands Major Budgetary Support for Gurgaon-Rewari Development
Union Minister and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh has formally appealed to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging significant financial allocations for critical infrastructure and civic challenges in Gurgaon and Rewari ahead of the 2026–27 state budget. In a comprehensive letter, the minister highlighted the region's pressing needs, emphasizing its role as a vital economic hub that requires immediate attention to sustain growth and improve quality of life.
Public Transport Expansion to Combat Traffic Congestion
Flagging Gurgaon's strategic importance as an economic powerhouse, Singh stressed the urgent need to expand public transport networks. He specifically called for enhanced metro and rail-based connectivity to alleviate mounting traffic congestion and reduce dependence on private vehicles. The minister argued that improved mobility is essential for the city's continued economic vitality and residents' daily convenience.
Waste Management Crisis and Environmental Concerns
The minister raised serious concerns over waste management, citing alarming statistics: Gurgaon generates approximately 1,200 tonnes of garbage daily, while Rewari adds another 700-800 tonnes. He pointed out that a major portion of this waste is being dumped near the ecologically sensitive Aravalli hills, creating significant environmental hazards. Singh sought dedicated funds for Aravalli conservation, drainage systems, and sewage treatment to prevent further degradation.
Aravalli Conservation: A Natural Barrier Under Threat
Describing the Aravalli range as a crucial natural barrier essential for maintaining ecological balance in south Haryana, Singh referenced recent court observations and public protests about mining, deforestation, and unregulated construction in the region. He urged the state government to announce a clear, financially-backed policy for the conservation and restoration of this vital hill range, emphasizing its long-term environmental importance.
Polluted Water Inflow from Rajasthan
Singh also flagged the serious issue of polluted water flowing from neighboring Rajasthan into parts of Rewari and Dharuhera. He noted that this contamination has severely impacted local water bodies and agricultural land, threatening public health and livelihoods. The minister called for additional funds for sewage treatment plants (STPs), improved drainage infrastructure, and enhanced inter-state coordination to check the flow of contaminated water into Haryana districts.
Urban Infrastructure and Road Safety
On urban infrastructure, Singh sought budgetary support for flyovers, bypasses, and slip roads at accident-prone stretches, particularly along key highways connecting Gurgaon, Rewari, and Narnaul. He highlighted that frequent accidents on these corridors underscore the need for redesign and capacity expansion. Additionally, he pushed for flyovers and underpasses at major railway crossings to reduce traffic snarls in rapidly growing urban areas.
Strengthening Local Governance and Special Facilities
The minister emphasized the importance of strengthening urban local bodies and empowering elected representatives, in line with constitutional provisions, to improve service delivery in towns. He also advocated for dedicated facilities for ex-servicemen, including welfare centres and healthcare support, recognizing their contributions and specific needs.
