Sharad Pawar Initiates Grand Memorial Project for Late Nephew Ajit Pawar in Baramati
In a heartfelt tribute to his late nephew and political protégé, veteran politician Sharad Pawar has taken the initiative to create a grand memorial dedicated to the memory and vision of former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. The memorial is planned to be constructed on the campus of Vidya Pratishthan, an educational trust managed by the Pawar family, located in Baramati – the hometown of the late leader.
Memorial Planning Discussions Begin
On Sunday, Sharad Pawar, accompanied by his wife Pratibha Pawar, visited the Vidya Pratishthan campus where he held preliminary discussions with trustees about the memorial project. This visit came shortly after the tragic plane crash on January 28 that claimed Ajit Pawar's life, with his funeral having been performed on the same campus.
Kiran Gujar, a member of Vidya Pratishthan, confirmed the discussions to media outlets, stating: "Pawar Saheb was heading to Mumbai when he and his wife called us to the campus. He discussed the memorial for Ajitdada and instructed us to begin working on the plan. He mentioned he would revisit the details with us once the mourning period concludes."
Architectural Excellence as a Tribute
According to trust members, the memorial's design will receive special attention, reflecting Ajit Pawar's personal passion for architecture and building design. Gujar elaborated on this aspect, noting: "Ajitdada took personal interest in every project and always emphasized that each building should have a distinctive appearance. Given his appreciation for architecture, we believe his memorial should be both substantial in scale and unique in design."
The trust plans to consult with architects before finalizing the memorial's design, ensuring it becomes a fitting tribute to the late leader's legacy. Vidya Pratishthan, where Sharad Pawar serves as president and Ajit Pawar was among the trustees, will oversee the project's development.
Next Steps and Timeline
The planning process is expected to advance following the conclusion of the mourning period. The memorial project represents not only a personal tribute from Sharad Pawar to his nephew but also a significant landmark for Baramati and Maharashtra's political landscape. This initiative underscores the enduring impact of Ajit Pawar's contributions to the region and his uncle's commitment to preserving his memory through a meaningful, architecturally distinguished memorial.
