Telangana Cabinet Poised for Historic District Meeting at Medaram

The Telangana state cabinet is preparing for a groundbreaking meeting. Government sources indicate the session will likely occur at Medaram in Mulugu district on January 18. Officials have not made a formal announcement yet. This gathering would mark a significant departure from tradition.

A First for Telangana

If the meeting proceeds as planned, it will create history. For the first time in Telangana, a cabinet meeting would take place outside the capital. The chosen location is a predominantly forested region. Previous cabinet meetings always happened in Hyderabad. They typically convened at the secretariat, the chief minister's office, the government camp office, or the assembly premises.

Chief Minister's Packed Schedule

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has a busy itinerary on January 18. He is scheduled to attend a CPI public meeting in Khammam first. This event is part of the Left party's centenary celebrations. Later that same day, Revanth Reddy will travel to Medaram. He plans to convene the cabinet meeting there. The chief minister may stay overnight at Medaram or possibly Warangal.

On January 19, Revanth Reddy will likely offer prayers to the tribal goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma. He is also expected to inaugurate temple development works. All state ministers should attend the cabinet meeting. MPs, MLCs, and MLAs from the ruling party are also expected in Medaram on January 18 and 19. Their presence connects directly to the chief minister's visit.

Revanth Reddy will probably return to Hyderabad on the evening of January 19. He then plans to depart for Davos shortly after.

Strategic Reasons Behind the Venue Choice

A senior Congress leader explained the thinking behind this move. Party leaders believe holding a cabinet meeting at Medaram offers multiple advantages. First, it helps showcase the famous tribal jatara to a wider audience. Second, the action sends a strong message about Telangana's stability. It signals that the state is a safe destination with robust law and order. This perception is crucial for attracting investments, boosting tourism, and encouraging business growth.

The proposed meeting also supports a key government demand. The state wants national festival status for the Medaram Jatara. Holding the cabinet there strengthens this request significantly.

Key Agenda Items for Discussion

The cabinet meeting will address several important issues. Ministers are likely to take decisions on multiple fronts. Key agenda items include:

  • Approval of BC reservations fixed by the dedicated BC commission for urban local bodies.
  • Budgetary allocations for various welfare schemes across the state.
  • Ongoing river water disputes that require government attention.
  • Other pressing administrative matters needing cabinet approval.

This historic meeting represents more than just a change of scenery. It reflects a strategic effort to connect governance with cultural heritage and regional development.
