Tamil Nadu Welcomes 50 Transgender Persons into Home Guards

Chief Minister M K Stalin took a significant step on Tuesday by inducting 50 transgender persons into the Tamil Nadu Home Guards. This move forms part of the state's broader initiative to ensure equal employment opportunities for the transgender community.

Budget Promise Becomes Reality

The induction directly follows an announcement in the 2025-26 State Budget. The government pledged to promote dignity, awareness, and equal job prospects for transpersons. Making them part of the Home Guards served as a pilot project to fulfill this commitment.

Authorities selected and trained these 50 individuals for the first phase. The Director General of Police and the Home Guards commandant provided the necessary recommendations for their appointment.

Postings Across Key Districts

The new recruits received postings in several important districts. The breakdown of their assignments is as follows:

  • Fifteen are posted in Tambaram.
  • Ten will work in Avadi.
  • Seven are assigned to Madurai.

Celebrating a Major Jobs Milestone

During the same event, Chief Minister Stalin handed an appointment order to a special candidate. This person became the 3,00,000th individual selected through the state's mega private-sector job fairs.

The Labour Welfare and Skill Development Department organizes these fairs. From 2021 until January 2026, they conducted an impressive 2,437 job fairs across Tamil Nadu.

These events saw massive participation:

  • 74,856 employers took part.
  • 15.62 lakh job seekers attended.

The initiative has delivered tangible results. So far, 2,99,999 people have received appointment orders through this channel. This number includes 5,099 persons with disabilities who secured employment.

Launch of New Aavin Dairy Projects

Chief Minister Stalin also inaugurated eight new projects for Aavin, the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation. The total investment for these initiatives reached 80.62 crore rupees.

The new facilities aim to boost the state's dairy sector. Key projects include:

  • A major cattle feed manufacturing plant in Pudukkudi, Thanjavur district. This 50 crore rupee facility can produce 300 metric tonnes per day.
  • A silage fodder block unit in Sathyamangalam, Erode district. Costing 6.72 crore rupees, it has a daily capacity of 25 metric tonnes.
  • An ice cream and fermented milk products plant in Trichy district. With an investment of 21.57 crore rupees, it can make 6,000 litres of ice cream and 10,000 litres of fermented products daily.
