Visakhapatnam Set for Transformation into Premier Sports Destination
The Andhra Pradesh state government is placing substantial emphasis on sports development, with ambitious plans to elevate Visakhapatnam into a major sports hub. This strategic initiative was announced by Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, highlighting the government's commitment to fostering athletic excellence and infrastructure.
Major Infrastructure Projects Announced
MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao revealed that a comprehensive integrated sports complex, modeled after the renowned Gachibowli facility in Hyderabad, will be established on a sprawling 25-acre site at Kommadi. This state-of-the-art complex is designed to provide world-class training and competition facilities for various sports disciplines.
In a significant move toward inclusivity, the plans also include a dedicated stadium specifically for disabled sportspersons. This facility aims to empower athletes with disabilities by offering them specialized infrastructure to hone their skills and compete at higher levels.
Telugu Celebrity Cricket League Inauguration
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Telugu Celebrity Cricket League at the ACA–VDCA Stadium on Saturday. MLA Rao commended the organizers for their philanthropic approach, as all match proceeds are being donated to support poor students and aspiring athletes.
To encourage community participation and make sports accessible to all, free entry passes are being distributed to spectators. The league features four teams composed of film and television actors, adding a glamorous dimension to the sporting event.
Expansive Participation and Support
The league has garnered widespread participation, with a total of seven teams competing. These teams include not only celebrity squads but also teams representing police personnel, bureaucrats, and public representatives, showcasing broad-based engagement across different sectors of society.
The inaugural event was attended by several dignitaries, including:
