In a significant move to support students, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has announced free travel in its ordinary buses for candidates appearing in the NEET retest scheduled for June 21. This initiative aims to ease the transportation burden on students during the examination period.
Free Travel Facility Details
An HRTC spokesperson confirmed that the free travel facility will be available from June 20 to June 22, covering both the journey to the examination centre and the return trip. Students can avail of this concession by presenting a valid NEET-2026 admit card, which will serve as proof of identity, residence, and examination centre. The concession is strictly limited to one onward journey and one return journey between the candidate's home and the examination venue.
Measures to Prevent Misuse
To ensure the scheme is used appropriately, HRTC has instructed bus conductors to record the details of each journey on the student's admit card. This step is intended to prevent any misuse of the free travel facility. Additionally, HRTC unit officers have been directed to enforce strict implementation of the scheme and maintain proper records for transparency and accountability.
Impact on Students
This announcement comes as a relief for many students who are preparing for the NEET retest. By providing free transportation, HRTC aims to reduce financial stress and ensure that candidates can focus on their examination without worrying about travel costs. The free travel is available only in ordinary buses, not in deluxe or Volvo services.
Students are advised to carry their admit cards at all times during their journey and to cooperate with HRTC staff for verification. The scheme reflects the state government's commitment to supporting education and facilitating a smooth examination process for students across Himachal Pradesh.
