A 28-year-old man from Ujjain has been arrested for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman from Mumbai after befriending her on Instagram and promising marriage, according to Badnagar police.
Incident Details
The complainant, a resident of Dadar, Mumbai, told the police that she connected with the accused, Vikas Sharma of Kazipur, on Instagram approximately two weeks ago. After they began conversing, Vikas expressed his intention to marry her. Trusting his promise, the woman traveled to Badnagar to meet him. There, he allegedly raped her under the pretext of marriage.
Legal Action
She filed a complaint at Badnagar police station around 2 a.m. on Wednesday. A case was registered, and Vikas was arrested. He was produced before a First Class Judicial Magistrate and subsequently sent to judicial custody.
Station House Officer Ashok Patidar stated that the accused has no prior criminal record and had been visiting Badnagar for work with a band.
