Jaipur Police Implement AI Surveillance at Major Religious Gathering

In a significant move to enhance security and safety, the Jaipur City Police have deployed state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence-enabled cameras and advanced analytics systems at a Shiv Mahapuran Katha event in the Mansarovar area. This religious gathering is expected to attract nearly 50,000 devotees on a daily basis, creating a substantial challenge for crowd management and crime prevention.

Real-Time Monitoring and Crowd Control

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma provided detailed insights into the innovative system, which has been strategically installed across the venue's domes and all entry points. The primary function of this technology is to deliver real-time headcounts and precise movement tracking, enabling officers to proactively prevent overcrowding and respond instantly to any emerging risks.

"These special cameras are deployed under each dome. We keep a live headcount, and the moment capacity is breached, an alert is issued," Varma explained. He emphasized that this approach allows the police to manage crowd flow in a scientific manner, significantly minimizing the potential for stampede-like situations that can occur in such densely packed environments.

Advanced Theft Detection Capabilities

Beyond simple crowd counting, the AI system performs sophisticated analysis to detect suspicious activities. The software is programmed to flag unusual movement patterns, such as loitering near dense clusters of people, repeated entry and exit behavior, or coordinated movements in groups. These patterns are often associated with organized pickpocketing gangs that have historically exploited large religious gatherings.

Police officials noted that such criminal groups typically blend into massive crowds to steal mobile phones, purses, and gold chains before escaping unnoticed. "We observed that organised groups would infiltrate such events and decamp with valuables. This time, we decided to stay a step ahead," Varma stated, highlighting the proactive strategy behind the deployment.

Successful Implementation and Arrests

During the ongoing Katha event, the combination of AI surveillance and a team of plainclothes police officers has already yielded positive results. On Friday, multiple suspects were detained thanks to alerts generated by the system. "We have busted gangs and detained several persons involved in stealing valuables from visitors," Varma confirmed.

He specifically mentioned that a gang involved in mobile phone and chain thefts was recently busted after being flagged through this surveillance network, demonstrating the practical effectiveness of the technology in real-world scenarios.

Centralized Command and Crowd Dispersion

The feeds from all cameras are continuously monitored at a central control room, where dedicated teams analyze alerts and relay immediate instructions to ground personnel stationed throughout the venue. This coordinated response mechanism ensures swift action against any threats.

Additionally, the system aids in dispersing crowd pressure by guiding devotees towards less congested zones, thereby enhancing overall safety and comfort for attendees. This holistic approach not only targets criminal activities but also prioritizes the well-being of the massive gathering, setting a new standard for security at large-scale public events in India.
