Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: A Mid-Range Marvel
Nothing launched the Phone (4a) Pro with a clear strategy: not about raw power, but delivering the best experience with available resources. Four generations later, the UK brand refines its lineup. At Rs 39,999, the Phone (4a) Pro is Nothing's most significant 2026 launch, bringing flagship elements with confidence. It's a statement: design-first, software-clean, distinct, and best value in India.
Price in India
The base 8GB+128GB variant costs Rs 39,999, the 8GB+256GB version is Rs 42,999, and the top-end 12GB+256GB model is Rs 45,999.
Design and Display
The Phone (4a) Pro marks a design shift: a metallic matte body with flat edges and curved corners feels premium. The transparent back is now concentrated in the camera module, looking intentional. Subtle branding and a small circular indent at the bottom-left help pull the phone from tight pockets. IP65 dust/water resistance is slightly behind competitors. The optical fingerprint scanner is positioned lower for easier access with smaller hands.
The camera module features a Glyph Matrix display with larger micro LEDs (brighter but less sharp). It supports notifications, calls, timers, charging, digital clock, moon phase, solar path, and battery status.
The 6.83-inch AMOLED display offers 1.5K resolution, 100% DCI-P3, HDR10+, and a 144Hz adaptive refresh rate (capped at 120Hz in most scenarios). Colors are punchy, viewing angles wide, and HDR content on YouTube/Netflix shows good detail. Dual stereo speakers prioritize treble, making dialogue crisp but lacking bass.
Performance
Powered by Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, the phone handles everyday tasks smoothly. Gaming is solid for casual titles, with good heat management. Nothing OS 4.1 on Android 16 is bloatware-free, with no intrusive ads. Users can choose a black-and-white theme or Android 16 default colors. The Essential Space feature (via dedicated key) stores screenshots, voice memos, notes, with AI summarization. The phone promises four years of OS updates and six years of security patches.
Cameras
The triple rear camera system includes a 50MP Sony LYT700C primary, 8MP ultrawide (120° FOV), and 50MP periscope telephoto with OIS (up to 140x digital zoom). The front is 32MP. The primary sensor captures fine detail and good low-light performance; AI processing yields 8.5/10 photos. The telephoto offers better detail, though AI does heavy lifting at high zoom. Colors lean cool with occasional oversaturation. Portrait shots have natural edge detection and blur. Selfies are acceptable. Overall, reliable everyday photography with standout primary and telephoto.
Battery
The 5,400mAh battery with 50W wired charging provides a day's backup with around five hours of screen time for browsing, streaming, social media, and light gaming.
Verdict
At Rs 39,999, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro offers a premium design, clean software, and dependable performance. It's not the most powerful, but the overall experience is hard to quantify yet easy to appreciate. Trade-offs exist, but it's a compelling mid-range choice for those valuing design and software.
