Guntur's New Municipal Commissioner Outlines Development Vision
K Mayur Ashok, a 2018-batch IAS officer, assumed charge as the Municipal Commissioner of Guntur on Saturday. He immediately set out his priorities for the city, emphasizing a strong focus on public welfare and infrastructure enhancement.
Top Priorities for Guntur's Development
Ashok stated that improving sanitation, ensuring reliable drinking water supply, and providing basic infrastructure will receive top priority. He aims to address these fundamental needs to benefit the people of Guntur directly.
The commissioner plans to undertake extensive field-level visits across all areas of the city. These visits will help him understand public issues firsthand and work towards resolving them promptly.
Enhancing Public Grievance Redressal
Ashok highlighted efforts to ensure speedy disposal of complaints received through the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS). He believes efficient complaint resolution is crucial for maintaining public trust and improving city services.
Guntur city, with a population of around 10 lakh, holds a key position within the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) limits. Ashok noted that the city's development will supplement the needs of the upcoming capital city, making strategic planning essential.
Achieving Goals Through Teamwork
The commissioner stressed that the cooperation of municipal officials and staff will be vital in achieving these development goals. He expressed confidence in their ability to work together towards common objectives.
Ashok expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for entrusting him with the responsibility of Guntur as Municipal Commissioner. He acknowledged the CM's specific focus on the city's overall development, which aligns with his own vision.
Building on Past Achievements
The commissioner recalled that last year, the Guntur Municipal Corporation received several awards from Central and state government agencies. These included recognitions under the Swachh Bharat Mission and the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
Ashok said efforts would be made to sustain these achievements and secure even better rankings in the future. He aims to build upon the city's existing successes to drive further improvement.
Effective Implementation of Welfare Schemes
He further stated that various welfare schemes provided by the government would be implemented effectively. The goal is to ensure these schemes reach the people who need them most, maximizing their impact.
Emphasizing development works, Ashok said steps would be taken to expedite ongoing projects in the city. He also plans to complete pending works at the earliest possible opportunity.
Aiming for National Recognition
Ashok added that both ongoing projects and government priority projects would be completed within stipulated timelines. His ultimate aim is to develop Guntur as the number one city at the national level, setting a benchmark for urban development.
The commissioner's comprehensive approach combines immediate action on basic amenities with long-term strategic planning. This dual focus aims to address current needs while positioning Guntur for future growth and recognition.
