Hisar Residents Block Roads Over 4-Hour Daily Power Supply

Residents of Bhiwani Rohillan in Hisar district and Ghrai village in Hansi blocked major roads on June 28, 2026, to protest chronic power shortages, alleging they receive only about four hours of electricity daily despite being covered under the 'Mhara Gaon-Jagmag Gaon' scheme.

Bhiwani Rohillan Road Blockade

Under the banner of the Pagri Sambhal Jatta Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, a large number of villagers and farmers blocked the Hisar-Balsamand-Bhadra road. They accused the Power Department of failing to provide 24-hour electricity, as promised under the scheme. Protesters claimed that villages under the Bhiwani Rohilla 33 kV substation were receiving power through a 70-year-old transmission line from Adampur, leading to frequent unscheduled cuts.

Upon receiving information, Balsamand police post in-charge Jaibir Singh and Junior Engineer Pawan Kumar from the Power Corporation arrived at the scene. After negotiations, officials gave a written assurance to complete pending work on the Arya Nagar 133 kV substation within four days, by Thursday. The protest was then called off.

Warning of Indefinite Stir

Anil Gorchi, a state committee member of the Pagri Sambhal Jatta Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, stated that despite repeated written complaints over the past year, power officials had only offered assurances without resolving the issues. He warned that if uninterrupted 24-hour power supply is not restored by Thursday, villagers will launch an indefinite protest outside the Balsamand electricity office.

Ghrai Village Protest in Hansi

Similarly, residents of Ghrai village in Hansi blocked the Hansi-Barwala road, protesting erratic power supply that has persisted for a long time. Villager Satish Boora highlighted the disparity: while the government claims to provide 24-hour electricity in urban areas, villages receive limited supply, causing hardship to both residents and farmers. Police later arrived to pacify the protesters, who warned of intensified agitation if power supply is not improved.

Impact and Official Response

Both protests underscore the growing frustration among rural consumers who pay electricity bills but face inadequate supply. The Power Department's written assurance in Bhiwani Rohillan provides a temporary reprieve, but the threat of indefinite protests looms if deadlines are not met. The situation reflects broader challenges in rural electrification infrastructure in Haryana.
