Bhopal Family Injured in High-Speed SUV Crash on Highway, Driver Flees
A family of seven sustained serious injuries in a high-speed collision on the Bhopal-Indore highway early Wednesday morning. The accident occurred at Bhauri Jod in the Khajuri area of Bhopal. Three family members are in critical condition, while four others received treatment for their injuries.
Details of the Early Morning Collision
The crash happened around 2:30 am near Campion School at Bhauri Jod. A black Tata Harrier SUV, traveling at high speed from the Bhauri side, struck the family's Scorpio vehicle from the side. The impact proved severe, causing the Scorpio to lose control. It overturned and crashed into two parked cars nearby, damaging them extensively.
Police confirmed the driver of the offending SUV fled the scene immediately after the collision, abandoning the vehicle. Fortunately, no one was inside the parked cars at the time of the accident, preventing further casualties.
Family's Journey and Injuries
The injured family hails from Batiyagarh in Damoh district. They were traveling from Pithampur to Damoh for the Makar Sankranti festival. After a visit, they were returning home but lost their way. They reached Lalghati Square via the bypass before turning back towards the Gyrah Meel bypass.
Ajay Lodhi was driving the Scorpio at the time of the crash. The injured include Veer Singh Lodhi, his wife Ravina Lodhi, and their children Krishna (17), Shivam, and Halle Lodhi. Ajay Lodhi and Nand Kishore were also injured in the collision.
Krishna, a Class VIII student, along with Ravina, Shivam, and Halle, received treatment at Hamidia Hospital. Veer Singh, Ajay, and Nand Kishore, with more serious injuries, were shifted to a private hospital for advanced care.
Police Action and Traffic Impact
Police have registered a case against the fleeing SUV driver and launched a full investigation into the incident. The accident caused major traffic disruption on the busy Bhopal-Indore highway. Authorities later restored normal traffic flow after clearing the damaged vehicles from the scene.
Local residents expressed concern over speeding vehicles on the highway, especially during late-night hours. The investigation continues as police work to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for this serious hit-and-run incident.
