Family Allegedly Strangles Father Over Fears He Would Squander Daughter's Wedding Money in Mahoba
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh, a 38-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his own family members over fears that he would waste money specifically arranged for his daughter's wedding. The victim's body was discovered in a drain in Haibatpura village under the jurisdiction of Panwadi police station on April 14, leading to a complex police investigation that uncovered a disturbing family conspiracy.
Wedding Funds Trigger Deadly Family Dispute
According to Superintendent of Police Shashank Singh, who personally supervised the investigation, the victim had recently managed to arrange Rs 82,500 for his daughter's impending marriage by selling cattle. However, the family harbored deep concerns about his potential to squander this crucial sum due to his reported addictions to alcohol and gambling.
"The man was addicted to alcohol and gambling," SP Singh stated. "He had recently arranged Rs 82,500 for his daughter's marriage, but his family feared he might squander the money, triggering frequent disputes at home."
These domestic conflicts escalated dramatically, ultimately culminating in what police describe as a premeditated homicide planned and executed by the victim's closest relatives.
Chilling Conspiracy and Execution
Police investigations revealed that the victim's wife, her three daughters, a minor son, and a youth who was a friend of one of the daughters conspired together to eliminate the family patriarch. Acting on this sinister plan, the accused allegedly strangled the man with a rope inside their family home.
"His wife, her three daughters, a minor son, and a youth, who was a friend of one of the girls, conspired to eliminate him," SP Singh explained. "Acting on the plan, the accused allegedly strangled the man with a rope inside the house."
Following the murder, the family attempted to conceal their crime by dumping the body in a nearby drain, hoping it would be mistaken for an unidentified or accidental death. They further tried to destroy evidence by breaking the victim's mobile phone and hiding it in nearby bushes.
Police Investigation Uncovers the Truth
Initially, the family tried to mislead investigating officers with inconsistent statements and a lack of cooperation. However, these very inconsistencies raised police suspicions, prompting a more thorough investigation involving multiple units.
Teams from the Special Operations Group (SOG), surveillance unit, and local police conducted sustained interrogations that eventually led to a breakthrough in the case. While technical analysis including call detail records and location tracking provided limited concrete leads, the family's contradictory statements and suspicious behavior pointed investigators toward their involvement.
"Technical analysis, including call detail records and last location tracking, did not yield concrete leads," the SP noted. "The family's behaviour and contradictory statements, however, hinted at their involvement."
During intensive questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. Police have since recovered crucial evidence including the murder weapon (the rope used in the strangulation), the Rs 82,500 cash that triggered the dispute, and the damaged mobile phone the family attempted to conceal.
Legal Proceedings and Recognition
All adult accused have been arrested and face murder charges, while the minor boy involved in the conspiracy has been sent to a juvenile home. In recognition of their investigative work, a reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced for the police team that successfully cracked this complex family murder case.
This tragic incident highlights how financial pressures surrounding wedding expenses, combined with addiction issues, can escalate into unimaginable violence within families. The Mahoba police's methodical investigation demonstrates how persistent interrogation and behavioral analysis can overcome initial obstacles in solving crimes where families attempt to conceal their involvement.
