Greater Noida Fruit Seller Arrested for Murder After Marriage Proposal Rejection
A tragic incident unfolded in Greater Noida this week. A 28-year-old woman lost her life after rejecting a marriage proposal from a local fruit seller. Police have arrested the accused following a brief exchange of fire.
Victim Was Family's Sole Support After Parents' Deaths
The victim moved to Greater Noida on January 10, 2025. She secured a job at a call center in Noida. As the eldest of three siblings, she carried heavy responsibilities. Her father died from typhoid seven years ago. Her mother passed away five years later.
After these losses, one brother moved to Jaipur. She relocated to Greater Noida with her 15-year-old brother. The family originally hails from Agra. She earned approximately Rs 30,000 monthly. This income supported her brother who was taking private tuitions in Greater Noida.
How the Crime Unfolded
Police identified the accused as Satish. He is 28 years old and a father of two. Satish operated a fruit cart near the woman's residence. Investigators say he developed feelings for her after she frequently visited his shop.
"During questioning, Satish told police he had fallen in love with her," said Additional Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar. "He assumed she liked him too and proposed marriage. When she refused, he began pressuring her."
The fatal encounter occurred on Sunday evening. The woman was returning home after buying vegetables. Satish followed her and pressured her again about marriage. She ignored him and continued walking.
Enraged by her rejection, he strangled her between two parked cars. He then dragged her body under one vehicle. Her body was discovered by a neighbor around 8 am on Monday.
Family's Anxious Wait and Discovery
The victim's brother grew worried when she didn't return home. She typically returned by 9 pm from work. She usually commuted via Metro or booked bikes. On late workdays, she always informed her family.
"On Sunday night, she did not inform us," her brother told police. "I called around 9:30 pm but her phone was switched off. I fell asleep, woke around midnight, and she still wasn't home. Then I called our aunt."
The family hoped she would return by morning. Instead, they learned about the discovered body around 6 am. The location was barely 50 meters from her rented accommodation.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Greater Noida police acted swiftly after the discovery. They scanned CCTV footage from the area. This evidence led them to track Satish. Police arrested him on Tuesday following a brief exchange of fire.
Authorities have filed a case under BNS Section 103. The body was handed to the family after a post-mortem on Monday. The autopsy report is currently awaited.
The victim's aunt, who lives 200 meters away, shared details about her life. "She had shifted to Greater Noida last year after getting the call center job," the aunt said. Another aunt provided the family background information to investigators.
This heartbreaking case highlights multiple social issues. It shows the dangers women face when rejecting unwanted advances. It also underscores the struggles of young adults supporting families after parental loss.
