Pune Sisters Killed in Truck-Scooter Crash at Kalewadi

A tragic road accident claimed the lives of two young sisters in Pune on Wednesday afternoon. The fatal collision occurred near the Dhanagar Baba temple in Kalewadi when a truck rammed into their scooter.

Victims Identified as Law Graduate and Student

Pimpri Chinchwad police have identified the deceased siblings as Rutuja Pandurang Shinde, aged 24, and her younger sister Neha, aged 20. Both sisters were residents of Punawale in Pune.

Senior inspector Rajendra Bahirat from Kalewadi police station provided details about the incident. The accident happened around 1:15 PM when the sisters were traveling from Tapkir Chowk toward Kalewadi Phata.

How the Accident Unfolded

"When they reached near the temple at Rahatani Chowk, a truck dashed their scooter," Bahirat explained. "Both of them fell off the scooter under the impact and came under the wheels of the truck. The sisters died because of head injuries."

Police immediately took the truck driver into custody following the collision. Authorities confirmed the driver hails from Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh.

Truck Was Returning After Vegetable Delivery

Preliminary investigations revealed the truck had transported vegetables from Nagpur to Pimpri. The accident occurred when the vehicle was heading toward Kalewadi after unloading its cargo.

Rutuja had recently completed her law degree, while Neha was actively pursuing her studies at the time of the tragedy.

Local Resident Voices Safety Concerns

Sumit Dhage, a Punawale resident, told reporters the sisters had gone out shopping when the accident occurred. He expressed serious concerns about road safety in the area.

"Movement of heavy vehicles in our area during daytime is repeatedly proving to be fatal," Dhage stated. "To prevent further accidents, strict implementation of restrictions on heavy vehicles during daytime is necessary."

The Kalewadi police continue their investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the collision. This incident has renewed discussions about road safety measures and heavy vehicle regulations in Pune's residential areas.
