Three Killed in Hazaribag Explosion, Police Investigate Blast in Civilian Area
At least three people lost their lives in a powerful explosion in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district on Wednesday evening. Police officials confirmed the fatalities but stated they have not yet determined the exact nature of the explosives used in the incident.
Victims Identified, One Injured and Animal Killed
The deceased have been identified as Saddam, his wife Nanhi Parveen, and Rasheeda Parveen. According to police reports, one person sustained injuries in the blast, and one domestic animal, possibly a cow, also died. Rasheeda Parveen was initially rushed to Sadar Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries there.
Explosion Occurred During Bush Clearing Activity
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer of the area provided preliminary information suggesting the explosion happened while several families were clearing bushes in the Habibinagar area under Sadar police station limits. Local residents described the blast as powerful and underground or cylinder-like, causing immediate panic in the civilian neighborhood.
IG (Operations) Michael Raj emphasized that the blast location is in a civilian area with no connection to Maoist activities. He confirmed that a team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Ranchi has been dispatched to Hazaribag to examine the site and collect evidence.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving information about the explosion, a police team from Bara Bazar quickly reached the spot. Officers cordoned off the area, rescued the injured individuals, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. The administration stated that the exact circumstances surrounding the incident will only become clear after a thorough investigation is completed.
The police officer handling the case mentioned that investigators are examining all possible angles. He noted that the area has previously reported incidents involving explosive materials, adding context to the current investigation.
Appeal for Calm and Security Measures
Police authorities have appealed to local residents to maintain calm and avoid spreading rumors. As a precautionary measure, additional police forces have been deployed in the area to ensure security and prevent any potential unrest.
