In a tragic incident at a sand unit in Popatpura village, Godhra taluka, an 18-month-old boy lost his life after a tractor reversed over him. The accident occurred at Gulshan Reti Centre, a facility involved in bagging and selling sand.
Details of the Incident
The child, identified as Vikas, was the son of Hitesh Baria, a labourer at the unit. Hitesh lived on-site with his wife Vata, sister Priyanka, daughter Vaishali (6), and son Vikas. The children often played in the sand while family members worked.
On Wednesday evening, Vaishali and Vikas went to the unit office for water. After drinking, Vaishali went to the toilet, while Vikas began walking back alone. At that moment, a tractor fitted with a bucket for loading sand reversed recklessly without checking its path.
Vikas was standing behind the tractor. He was hit and fell, and the tractor's wheel crushed his head, causing instant death. The driver fled the scene upon realizing what had happened.
Aftermath
Authorities have launched an investigation. The incident highlights the dangers of leaving children unattended in industrial areas.
