In a solemn display of respect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma offered heartfelt tributes on Saturday to Manipur BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte, who passed away at a private hospital in Gurugram on Friday. The former minister, aged 61, was a prominent figure from the Zomi tribal community and represented the Thanlon constituency.

Valte's death follows grievous injuries sustained during a mob attack in May 2023, an early phase of ethnic violence in Manipur that shocked the nation. The incident left him battling for survival, and his prolonged struggle ended in Gurugram, marking a painful chapter in the region's history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over Valte's demise, describing him as a leader who "worked diligently towards bringing a positive difference in society." Manipur CM's Personal Tribute
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh flew to Delhi to pay his last respects, where he offered floral tributes and participated in a condolence meeting. The gathering was attended by MLAs, family members, and leaders from the Zomi community, with a brief prayer service held to honor the departed leader's memory and contributions.
Mizoram CM's Emotional Tribute
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma also expressed grief over Valte's death, extending condolences to his family and the broader Zo community. In a social media post, Lalduhoma stated, "Pu Gin's untimely demise is not only a tragic loss to the people of Manipur but to the entire Zo community across North-East India and beyond. His life was one of unwavering commitment to public service, guided by conviction, courage, and compassion for the voiceless."

Referring to the May 4, 2023 attack on Valte in Imphal, Lalduhoma noted that the incident "shocked the nation and remains a painful chapter in our collective memory."
