A special court for SC/ST Act cases in Bhojpur district, Bihar, on Thursday sentenced two men to rigorous life imprisonment for the murder of a 40-year-old man in 2017. The court of first additional district and sessions judge Sailendra Kumar Panda also imposed a fine of Rs 3.05 lakh on each of the convicts.
Case details
According to special public prosecutor Satyendra Kumar Singh, the case dates back to September 7, 2017. The complainant, Virendra Tatwa, a resident of Ramdatthi village under Shahpur police station (Karnamepur OP), alleged that his younger brother, Rajendra Tatwa, was shot dead by co-villagers Brajesh Rai and Rameshwar Rai. The incident occurred in the evening when Rajendra was returning home from his agricultural field.
Medical treatment and death
Rajendra Tatwa was initially rushed for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Investigation revealed that the murder was the result of an ongoing land dispute between the parties.
Trial and conviction
The charges in the case were formally framed on March 18, 2019. During the trial, the prosecution presented eight witnesses to substantiate the allegations. Based on the evidence and testimonies, the court found both accused guilty and awarded life imprisonment along with the financial penalty, bringing closure to the long-pending case.
